The Goners - Demo

LISTEN

Something sinister is looming, and it's ready to give you a roundhouse kick in a bar fight.  I picture the grim reaper riding through the desert on his supercharged hog, and he's here to show you how to rock before he shows you how you'll die.  The Goners have officially made their debut in the form of their first demo as of February 1 this year, and to no surprise, it's an exceptional addition to the portfolio of its experienced members.  Having doom disciples of Salem's Pot involved in a high octane Rock'n'roll project can only lead to a spectacle of head-bobbing splendor.  The Goners don't completely abandon their roots, and they aren't trying to.  Instead, they embrace what they know, and they give to you what you didn't know they knew.

The first song is an unforgettable slasher that gets you moving from the second you hit play until you reach its end.  The second is a more evil jam, whose main riff is along the lines of some slowed-down horror punk.  There's a comforting familiarity to the riffy guitar-work on both of these songs that also extends beyond how you're used to hearing it.  It's not quite Hard Rock, it's not quite Stoner and it's not quite Doom; but it's also all three of these.  Whatever it is, it's good, honest, devilish fun, and you're sure to fall in love with it.  The vocals stand out as being absolutely phenomenal, carrying a perfect tone across the nine minute duration of this demo.  Knate is using fewer vocal effects than I've heard on his other projects which allows his tone to shine through the mix on this release.  I don't plan on pulling it out of my heavy rotation anytime soon.

If you're looking for a soundtrack for an afternoon drive through town, look no further than The Goners' debut demo, but watch your speedometer or you'll be getting pulled over.  However you decide to listen, keep these guys on your radar, because I'm sure they'll be doing big things.  There's something here for every fan of heavy music, and it's free, so you have no reason to not download it right now!  They may be goners, but let's hope they're here to stay a while.
